This prompt got my attention. While I could take this prompt in many directions, I’d like to focus on how walking can be a great exercise and how can you walk more to stay fit.

I’ll also share how many steps I walk each day and whether or not I run.

How many steps are good for you

You might have read that walking 10k steps are great for health or track your steps.

That’s good no doubt, but there’s no specific research that suggest that 10k steps will benefits you and 8k won’t.

Walking is great, it’s good for:

  • Improves cardiovascular health
  • Helps maintain weight or lose weight
  • Strengthens muscles and bones
  • Reduces risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes
  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Boosts mood
  • Improves sleep quality
  • Can help manage depression

That’s all true. I don’t deny that, but no specific number guarantees good results. Yes, walking more is considered great, but we can’t and shouldn’t walk so much that we become tired and exhausted.

Tracking steps can be a good practice for those who are new to this routine. However, if you’re stressing over not walking 10,000 steps, you’re not enjoying walking properly

How often do I walk?

Yes, I walk a lot and I’m not shy about going to places near me on foot. I’ve already mentioned how walking is beneficial. It’s a quick time-saver.

I always take the stairs to my gym, which is 5 floors. I always use public restrooms that are farther away so that I can walk more. I also enjoy walking after dinner, as it aids in digestion.

So walking is an important part of my life. As for running, I like running as well and nowadays, I’m running more than before (no, I haven’t started bank robbery as side gig).

Running, however, consumes a lot of energy, so it’s important to nourish your body with the right amount of nutrition and hydration.

For hydration, I don’t measure how much water I drink, but I stay sufficiently hydrated. For nutrition, I eat food that I know, understand, and trust (which is obviously not UPFs and SSBs).

  1. Walking is so minimal but so great for your body. Admittedly, I can’t always get in 10k steps but I try to get in at least 7-8k. So I’m glad to hear the exact amount of steps doesn’t matter 😊

    DU and walking is great as long as you don’t fall.. lol. I do average 8,000 a day.. sometimes more, sometimes less. 👏👏💓

  3. Thanks for talking about walking, one of my favorite exercises! I do not count my steps. I walk about a mile (2000 steps) three times a week. I often walk for transportation and I use the stairs instead of the elevator (up to three floors). When I am gardening I am getting many steps in, but I’d rather not quantify them and just enjoy myself.

  4. I need to walk more! And it’s a great exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise too.
    I enjoy walking a lot but the intense heat of this summer and all the medical emergencies with my kids have precluded me from enjoying those daily walks.

  5. I admit, I no longer walk enough. My step tracker died and I haven’t decided if it helped enough to purchase a new one….or if I’d wear it again on a regular basis. Something to think about I guess!
