If you are curious to know about Platelets(just like me), then this is a perfect blog for you. I heard about platelets a lot recently(I will tell you later why), I know that platelets are inside our bodies, but I didn’t know what is their function? how do they decrease? and what’s the best way to increase them?
This blog will answer all these questions in a very simple way and maybe you can save this information for future reference. Also, I have a surprise for you guys. Let’s first understand this:
What are platelets?
Platelets are small and colourless stem cell fragments made in the bone marrow. Our body contains somewhat around 1.5- 4.5 lakh of platelets and they live for 10 days, as bone marrow creates new platelets every day.
Platelets help our body to form clots to stop bleeding(during any cut, wound). Platelets spread across the surface of blood vessels and also send a chemical signal to attract more platelets.
So basically, platelets help in stopping the bleeding and low platelets count could mean we would bleed non-stop(and that’s not a good thing).
How platelets decreases?
Platelets count could decrease due to :
- Anemia.
- Viral infections( like chicken pox).
- Chemotheraphy drugs.
- Heavy alcohol consumption.
- Dengue- which is why I heard about platelets a lot.
- Bacteria in blood.
- Genetic cause.
- Poor nutrition.
- Even pregrancy.
When dengue virus enters the bloodstream, it infects the platelets causing in decrease in platelets count.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms include:
- Bleeding gums.
- Blood in stool, urine or vomit.
- Heavy menstrual periods.
- Rash like red/purple dots on legs.
- Bruising easily.
How to increase platelets count naturally?
Here is the surprise I was talking about :

You can save it easily for reference and if you are unable to download it, then let me know in the comment section or you can get it from my social media accounts.
Your main priority should be eating healthy food. Avoid alcohol and an unhealthy diet if you find out that you are low on platelets count. My previous blogs will guide you more :

So, I hope you got some relevant information about platelets. It is imperative to get a complete blood count test to know about your platelets count (don’t overlook any symptoms). If your platelets count is below 1.5 lakh, then it could be a serious thing, and you should visit a doctor immediately.
