78 million acres. 350 million tons. 100-10,000 every year.
These figures seem strange. But these are actually very shocking. Let me re-write them: -> 78 million acres of rainforest are lost annually. -> 350 million tons of plastic end up in ocean every year. -> 100-10,000 species goes extinct every year.
We don’t see or care to read these figures daily, but on Earth day, let’s talk about our beautiful earth.
Why Earth day matters?
I don’t understand why we need a specific day to think about our earth. Why can’t we live in a way that doesn’t harm our earth?
If you think that in this post I will share some tips and tricks that could protect the earth from any further damage, then you are wrong.
Because there should not be a need for tips and tricks. We should be mindful of our choices and action. We need to understand that whatever we are doing today can affect the future.
I see people cutting trees for their own selfish goals. I see people littering in river. Clearly, those people don’t love the earth. Because, if they do, they would have been mindful.
Global warming
Global temperatures are rising. You might have read about the iceberg of size 3 times to that of New York is melting fast. That’s concerning.
Or 35% of North Greenland ice shelves have lost its volume.
These things will not affect us immediately, but as the earth is heating up, things are changing as well.
Like, you can see somewhere there’s no rain, while in other places there’s too much rain. Some dry places are getting flood. While, some places that used to have water are now dry and facing shortage of water.
I read yesterday in the newspaper that according to reports, from next year summers will come early. These are because of global warming and that’s because of human activities.
With that pollution is also rising and the best thing is: out of 100 polluted cities, India has 83 (such a great thing to be proud of).
Our earth is dying
Do you know there have been 5 mass extinction on earth until now? I won’t be discussing them here, but let me tell you why I mentioned that here.
Those 5 mass extinctions were earth’s fight against nature and all 5 times, our earth lost. Right now 6th fight is going on. This is a fight of human vs nature. People think that they can control the nature. But, they are wrong.
If nature can create, it can also destroy. Every time human disturbs the harmony, nature fight back.
People will not like to read it, but a certain recent virus was also nature’s way of fighting. How easily we were trapped inside our homes, fearing for our lives.
Pollution is also effecting humans in many ways. Like due to pollution, people are having health issues like heart issues, breathing issues and even reproductive issues.
So, the choice is totally ours. We need to plan our actions. We need better education and we need better awareness of what should be done.
Earth day will come and go, but need to decide if we want our Earth to stay or not.
