Keto diet is more popular than ever.
Everyone wants that extra burn keto diet for quick weight loss. I’ve seen so many people jump on this trend after seeing celebrities flaunt their transformations.

But is this keto diet plan for weight loss a good idea? And the major question is, what is this keto diet, anyway?

What is the keto diet, and how does it work

I’ll keep this simple and fun

When you eat carbs, found in bread, rice, fruits, and even veggies, your body breaks them down into glucose (a type of sugar) for energy.
Glucose gives you quick fuel. Your body uses it for walking, running… literally everything.

Extra glucose? Your body says, “Oh, I don’t need this now, I’ll save it for later,” and stores it as glycogen in your liver and muscles. Just like how we save extra money for emergencies.

But when you stop eating carbs, aka you start the keto diet, your body doesn’t get any new glucose from food. It starts using that stored glycogen for basic needs.
It’s like the body says: Give me what I want

Glycogen stores are limited. Like 2-3 days max, once they run out, the body starts breaking down fat into ketones for energy. Now, ketones become your main fuel. This process is called ketosis.

So basically, a keto diet is a low-carb (or almost no-carb) diet. The main focus shifts to fats for energy, with some protein.

Typically, a regular diet gives you 50–60% of calories from carbs. Keto? Just 5–10% carbs. The rest comes from fats and some protein.

The Keto diet wasn’t even invented for weight loss. It started in the 1920s to help kids with epilepsy when meds didn’t work.

Now, people started using it to lose weight fast.
You want to slim down, burn fat quickly.. You start using something that burns fat, and hence, keto says hi.

Then celebrities like Halle Berry, LeBron James, and Kourtney Kardashian jumped in, using it for everything from managing diabetes to boosting performance and fat loss.

Speaking of diabetes, some studies suggest keto helps manage blood sugar levels.

Keto diet plan for belly fat is another common reason people dive into it, hoping to shrink that stubborn belly.

Athletes sometimes use such diets under supervision.

Some other possible benefits include:

  • Appetite suppression (Lowering hunger hormones)
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Improved HDL and triglyceride levels

However, more concrete evidence is needed on long term use and whether this will work every time.

Why the keto diet plan may not be for you

So far, I’ve talked about how the keto diet works and why people love it.
But let’s not ignore the side effects that aren’t much discussed

The majority of the keto diet cuts out the fiber ( from carbs), which is like food for gut bacteria.
No fiber or low fiber can seriously affect gut health.
It can cause bloating, constipation, irregular bowel movement, high cholesterol, higher risk of colon issues.

On top of that, keto can dehydrate you. You lose water weight fast, which may also cause in loss of electrolytes.

The body freaks out without carbs, and that can even cause keto flu, in which you may experience lethargy, headache, and brain fog. etc

Keto diet plan for belly fat is still under scrutiny, as it’s not guaranteed to work

As I mentioned above, when you are in ketosis, your body breaks down fat into ketones for energy.
These ketones are acidic. Kidenys have to work overtime to filter them out. That can put strain on 2 innocent kidneys and may cause kidney disease or failure.

How to use this keto diet

Although, keto diet is not for everyone. It is strictly suggested not to use it for more than 10 days. But, if you still want to try it, try under the supervision of a health care provider or a health coach, who knows how your body works, and make a plan accordingly.

You need to make sure you are eating enough fiber ( from low-carb veggies, psyllium husk, seeds, etc), taking electrolytes, and sufficiently hydrated.

Conclusion

The keto diet is a tool, and should not be used as a quick fix. It asks you to reduce carbs drastically, which can give results like weight loss. However, its negative effects should not be neglected.

If taken with negligence, it can affect gut health or may damage the kidneys.

Fast results are tempting, but your focus should always be on lasting health results.

  1. Really interesting post. I’ve never been a fan of Beto to be honest, carbs are necessary for our bodies. We need them to function and cutting them out so drastically isn’t the right way to go. Personally, I think it’s about balance. A little of everything.
