Today is World Heart Day, and I almost forgot!
Nah!!! 😝
I did remember it but didn’t have a post idea. Then I thought more and came up with a quick one.
I will talk about easy things you can do for good heart health
Here are some points that will make sense to you:
Table of Contents
Balanced diet
Let me tell you about simple stuff without complexity.
You need fresh fruits and veggies, as they are rich in antioxidants and fiber. Antioxidants fight free radicals and prevent cell damage, while fiber helps lower bad cholesterol (which can cause plaque buildup in arteries).
Fruits and veggies also have anti-inflammatory properties, which help prevent heart disease.
By the way, fiber also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promote fullness, and assist with weight management.
The heart also needs omega-3 fatty acids, which can reduce inflammation, lower triglycerides, and improve blood vessel function.
Sources include fish like salmon and tuna, nuts like walnuts, and seeds like chia seeds and hemp seeds.
Whole grains are also a great option for nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, iron, etc., that support heart health.
Avoid trans fats, saturated fat (consume in smaller quantities), foods high in sodium, refined carbs, and foods high in sugar.
Regular exercise
As I always promote, regular exercise is important. It strengthens heart muscles and improves blood flow.
Regular exercise helps the heart pump blood efficiently and lowers blood pressure. It also reduces stress.
Look, these are more technical topics and may need more detailed blog posts. For now, just understand it like this: if the heart is a machine, it needs regular servicing and tuning.
You can’t just sit all day, letting bad blood reach the heart and then the rest of the body, while even 30 minutes of activity can make a difference.
You need at least 30-45 minutes of exercise daily. It could be as simple as walking, cycling, swimming, running, yoga, dancing, rock climbing, or even trekking.
You choose the activity that suits you; I won’t promote any specific workout.
Managing stress
Stress and the heart are closely related. When you experience stress, hormones like cortisol and adrenaline are released, which can raise blood pressure and heart rate.
If this continues, it can lead to issues like heart attack, hypertension, stroke, and irregular heart rhythms.
It is often ignored, but stress can also lead to overeating (emotional eating), smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption, all of which are directly related to heart issues.
Exercise, sleeping well (which we will discuss next), social support, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help you manage stress.
I suggest you seek professional help if stress is affecting your lifestyle.
Sleeping sufficiently
I’m sure most people don’t associate sleep with heart health, but these two have a very deep connection.
During sleep, blood pressure drops, and we need deep sleep for that. If this doesn’t happen, blood pressure won’t remain stable throughout the day and can even lead to a heart attack.
Sleep also regulates stress hormones, which are essential for managing stress. Stress and sleep are very closely related and have a reciprocal relationship.
Sleep also reduces inflammation in the body.
But the problem is people aren’t sleeping enough—7-8 hours of sleep is important, but many aren’t getting it due to unhealthy sleep habits.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings famously stated that sleep is Netflix’s biggest competitor. Now you decide how to take that statement.
Sleeping less may not seem harmful in the moment, but over time, it starts damaging the body. Lack of sleep can affect cognitive function, increase the risk of chronic disease, weaken the immune system, cause hormonal imbalances, and more.
Other things that ensure good heart health
Smoking and drinking can prevent you from having good heart health. But in the modern world, sitting for extended hours is also becoming as dangerous as smoking for our health and heart health in general.

Smoking and even sitting for extended hours thicken the blood, increasing the risk of blood clots.
Excessive screen time is now a major contributor to heart disease in people.
We need to fix these habits for better heart health.
And what did I do to ensure good heart health? I participated in a marathon for the first time.

Conclusion
What I’ve shared is simple and doable, you just need to make adjustments.
Start with easy exercises like walking—10 minutes daily after a meal. It will be fun. Try home-cooked meals and food that makes sense to you. Visit the doctor regularly and get tested.
These steps will help you know more about your heart health.
And if you still need more info… I’ll help you. My writing hormones are high, and I’m ready to write! I promise to be more present in October.
Until then, do the same thing you always do— Smile. 😊
