Drop these unhealthy habits

Welcome readers to this week’s blog. Today I will discuss the unhealthy habits which you should drop immediately if you want to live happily. You may wonder, what are these unhealthy habits and how I am so sure that people are actually doing it. Well, this is something that I am observing around me and want to stop people from doing it at the right time.

That was the introduction, now let’s talk directly about these habits.

#1 Eating late at night

Now, this is something very common and something you should change. Eating late at night can affect mental health, increase diabetes, can give you heartburn, indigestion, abdominal pain, fatigue, disrupt your sleeping pattern, and if you can’t sleep, you might probably eat something to pass the time or watch something online(that’s my next point) and that’s bad too.

You might be having several reasons like, your schedule doesn’t allow you to eat at the proper time, or you don’t like to eat at a certain time cause you are not hungry then, or 11 pm is your official dinner time. You need to change this, you need to find a proper time for dinner, cause if you can’t find time for dinner, be prepared to find time for the hospital.

Ayurveda recommends, dinner should be done before 7 pm, if you can manage that, then it’s good. For some, this time could be difficult to manage, just make sure you don’t delay it till 9 pm. Also, keep 3hr gap between dinner and sleep. For more info on what to do after dinner, check this out: What to do (and what not to do) after a meal

#2 Late night Binge-watching

Netflix and chill sound interesting, they have tons of interesting movies and shows(and anime) for you to watch and it’s your duty to watch all their content before sleeping. Not only Netflix, but other streaming services also provides tons of content at affordable prices. But, why watch all that before sleeping? I don’t remember if there’s any certification on binge-watching, so why? You might say, when to watch it then, we don’t have time throughout the day and why not?

Let me at least answer why not part. This binge-watching and late-night viewing is actually disrupting your sleeping pattern, it’s giving you insomnia, it’s hurting your eyes, it’s resulting in stress, it’s making you sluggish, it’s overall affecting your other activities.

Now, I’m not saying you to stop watching your favourite stuff; but, it should be done in a moderation. It’s better to be aware of all the negative effects at the right time and stop than to face the dire repercussions at the later stage of life.

#3 Eating outside too often/ ordering food from outside.

This is something my friend Mr I does a lot. He eats outside a lot, and even order food from his favourite restaurant a lot. His reasons are: not enough time, not being in a mood to eat home-cooked meals, tiredness/laziness, change of taste.

I am not against eating outside/ordering food from outside, I also order food online, but I don’t do it a lot or let’s say I order only certain food, that’s not possible for me to cook at home (at least not now). If you are eating out a lot, then you are surely harming your health. Outside food/junk food or street food definitely taste good, as they are meant to be. But, that’s definitely harming you. I won’t list the insalubrious effects but if you are eating outside food a lot, then best wishes to you.

Eating a home-cooked meal is far easier than you think, surely it’s time-consuming but it’s healthy. If you are not in the mood to cook at home, then look for options that are easy to cook and take less time. The best thing about home-cooked meals is you know what you are putting in them and how you are cooking them.

#4 Buying things because it’s popular or has convincing advertisement

How many times have you purchased something that is trendy or your favourite actor is doing that commercial? or probably you heard the words like Desi or Natural in the commercial?

Have you ever checked the content/description of the product you buy? I am strictly speaking of all the edible items and things you use on skin/hair. If you are not checking the contents, then maybe it’s time to start doing it. The purpose of the advertisements is not just marketing, but also to deceit the customer and people fall into that trap very easily if certain things/words are used. I also fell into this trap in 2016 and started using shampoo of certain brands that claim it to be 100% natural and desi. That resulted in permanent hair damage.

You should definitely compare all the available brands of any product you buy, it will take time initially but trust me it’s about your own health. Check and question every product, you should be aware of what you are putting on your skin or in your belly. If you can’t do this, then I hope you have insurance or something, cause you will need it.

#5 Taking phone with you at all the places

Yes, it definitely does, that’s why you take it everywhere with you. Like, if you are going to the washroom and doing your “business” while watching stuff on your phone and you bring the same phone to your dining table. Don’t your think that’s very unhygienic?

Not only that, you keep your “loved one” with you while sleeping, probably for an alarm or late-night scrolling, well that not only disrupts your sleeping pattern but also increases the risk of cancer, according to the California Department of public health.

Scientists at the University of Arizona have found that cell phones carry 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats.

I am not telling you to throw away your phone, but avoid taking/keeping your phone at all the places with you.

So, these were unhealthy habits that you should drop immediately. You can save lots of money if you can ditch these habits. You may not realise the perilous effects now, but time for you to be careful.

Before I end this blog; I want to say, I reached 100+ followers recently, but I am not happy with that. The reason for that is; 90% of my followers are following me without any reason and they don’t even interact with me or my blogs. If you are following me, kindly show some activity to my blogs or feel free to unfollow. For those, who invest their precious time in my blogs, thanks a lot to you guys.

That’s it for this week’s blog, until next time KEEP SMILING & STAY HEALTHY.

  3. Thank you for this post, Devang. You make some very interesting points. I do eat healthily, mostly cooking from scratch unless I’m extremely busy. I rarely eat out; in fact, I can’t remember the last time I did now. I’m vegan too so very aware of what I’m putting into my body. I’m also very planet-conscious in lots of ways and try to avoid using chemicals in anything, as far as I can anyway. As for TV late at night, I’m guilty of that, I must say, but no doubt, that’s why I don’t sleep well. I’ll give it a miss tonight and see if I sleep better. Strangely, I never have the TV on during the daytime. I also always keep my phone near to hand especially when I’m alone. Because I’m disabled, I have to make sure I’ve always got a way to contact my neighbour or a friend if I get into trouble. Having said that, if I’m out with a friend, I put my phone away. Nothing annoys me more than being in someone’s company while they’re busy tap, tap, tapping on their phone! Thanks for a good post. I’ll try and catch up with some more over the next few days. Keep going. Oh, and congratulations on your following 🙂 .

I am guilty of these bad habits, especially staying up way too late like I am right now. I’m addicted to junk food, especially sugary treats (I mean, who isn’t?) I definitely need to get back into being a better version of myself. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with us!

    • It must have affected your sleep then?
What about phone at bed? 🤔
Also, can I thank you enough for actually spending time on my older blogs?
Not many have show such passion and investment 😢

      • Yeah, but it mostly affected my love life. So it’s good to be rid of it for multiple reasons. TV’s are much too distracting. I rarely watch TV any way, and try to spend my time doing more productive types of things.

And I keep my phone on my nightstand, but I have it in a case that closes up like a wallet. And I don’t usually check it until morning. The light from it messes with my sleep too much if I do.

I don’t always get the time to read much, but when someone asks me to, I try to take special time out to do that. I will try to get back here as time allows. It’s nearly bedtime for me now. Lol

      • I’m so thankful to you!! 🥺
I mean, you are actually the first person who gave a significant amount of your precious time to read my older blogs 😢.
        Have a peaceful time ahead.

      • I’m so happy to hear that. And thank you, Devang. You’ve been so sweet to me. Have a wonderful day. Hope you’ll keep smiling too. 🙂
